THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTERMargaret Qualley, Melissa Leo, Julianne Nicholson and Dianna Agron star in Maggie Betts’ coming-of-age title.

Sony Classics is heading to the convent with Novitiate. The specialty label has acquired worldwide rights to the Maggie Betts-helmed film for mid-seven figures.

Written by Betts, the drama stars Margaret Qualley as a young woman training to become a nun who struggles with issues of faith, the changing Catholic Church and sexuality during the early 1960s and the era of Vatican II.

Melissa Leo, Julianne Nicholson and Dianna Agron co-star in the film.

Novitiate made its world premiere on Friday and is screening in the U.S. Dramatic Competition. The deal marks the second for SPC for a Sundance drama this year. Ahead of the festival, SPC nabbed Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me by Your Name.

Carole Peterman, Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler produced Novitiate, while Jessica Betts and Roland Betts served as executive producers.

CAA repped the filmmakers.
