Maddie Hasson Joins Netflix’s FTX Series ‘The Altruists’

SOURCE VARIETY – Netflix‘s upcoming limited series about infamous cryptocurrency exchange FTX has added 10 new cast members, Variety has learned.

Joining the show, titled “The Altruists,” as series regulars are: Eugene Young (“Veep,” “NCIS: Los Angeles”) as Gary Wang, Madison Hu (“The Brothers Sun”) as Constance Wang, Karan Soni (“Deadpool,” “Miracle Workers”) as Nishad Singh, Matt Rife (“Rolling Loud”) as Ryan Salame, Alex Lawther (“Alien Earth”) as Sam Trabucco, and Naomi Okada as Claire Watanabe.

In addition, the following will join the show in recurring roles: Maddie Hasson (“The Recruit”) as Lauren Platt, Marianna Phung (“Y: The Last Man”) as Lily Zhang, Paul Reiser (“The Kominsky Method,” “Mad About You”) as Joe Bankman, and Robin Weigert (“Deadwood,” “Big Little Lies”) as Barbara Fried.

The new additions join previously announced leads Julia Garner and Anthony Boyle, who will star as Caroline Ellison and Sam Bankman-Fried. Netflix has given the show an eight-episode order.

The official logline states that the show is “The story of Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison, two hyper-smart, ambitious young idealists who tried to remake the global financial system in the blink of an eye – and then seduced, coaxed, and teased each other into stealing $8 billion.”

Moore and Jacqueline Hoyt serve as executive producers and co-showrunners. Garner will executive produce in addition to starring. James Ponsoldt will direct the first episode and executive produce. Vinnie Malhotra and Jessie Dicovitsky executive produce for Higher Ground Productions along with Scoop Wasserstein for New York Magazine/Vox Media Studios, Tonia Davis, and Lauren Morelli.



Rohan Campbell & Maddie Hasson To Star In Indie Thriller ‘Violence’

DEADLINERohan Campbell (Halloween Ends, The Hardy Boys) and Maddie Hasson (Malignant, The Recruit) have signed on to star in the thriller pic Violence from filmmaker Connor Marsden.

The film is produced by Julian Geneen for Grand Touring Productions, William Woods (The Kid Detective) for Woods Entertainment, Albert Shin (The White Fortress) for Timelapse Pictures, and Maddy Falle (Dada) for Obvious Allegory. The script was written by Marsden, Woods, and Devin Myler. Cameras roll next month in Sudbury, Northern Ontario.

Pic is described as an “operatic punk rock thriller.” The Synopsis reads: Set in an alternate 1980s, we find our anti-hero Henry Violence caught in the middle of an intensifying drug war. The film will be scored by NOWHERE2RUN, comprised of members of the two-time Grammy Award-nominated Code Orange. Exec producers are Steven Schneider (Paranormal Activity and Insidious franchises) along with Tom Spriggs, Andrew Bronfman, Andrew Webster, Mark Stevens, and Sam Sutcliffe.

“The team breathing life into this film has equaled my decade-long passion in a way I could only dream of,” said Marsden. “I can’t wait for audiences around the world to meet these characters, brought to life by this remarkable cast.”

Violence is financed by Ursa Major, Game Theory Films, Redlab, Good Movies, and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund. Rohan Campbell is represented by CAA and Andrew Webster for Webster Talent Management and Maddie Hasson is repped by UTA.



Anthony Mackie, Morena Baccarin And Maddie Hasson To Star In George Nolfi’s ‘Elevation’

DEADLINE – George Nolfi will direct Lyrical Media’s post-apocalyptic action thriller Elevation with Anthony Mackie, Morena Baccarin and Maddie Hasson set to star. Brad Fuller is on board to produce with John Glenn and writing duo Kenny Ryan and Jacob Roman penning the script. The film is billed as a high-concept, thematically driven action piece set in the Rocky Mountains. The plot is being kept under wraps, but the story is said to follow a single father and two women who must venture from the safety of their home to face monstrous creatures in order to save the life of a child.

Producing alongside Fuller is Mackie, Glenn, Lyrical Media’s Founder Alex Black, Jeremy Kipp Walker, Joel Viertel, and Nolfi. Lyrical will finance the pic. Jon Rosenberg, Alex Ginno of Fuller Media and Natalie Sellers of Lyrical serve as executive producer as well as Jason Spire from Inspire Entertainment.

2022 Tribeca Film Festival Lineup announced

“Taurus” will have its North American premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival which will take place from June 8th until June 19th 2022.

Taurus, formerly known as Good News, tells the story of a rising but troubled musician (Baker) as he spends his days and nights searching endlessly for the inspiration to record one last song. His sister-like assistant (Maddie Hasson) wants to save him, his collaborators (Scoot Mcnairy, Lil Meech and Lil TJay) want him in the studio, while his dealer (Ruby Rose) and his ex (Megan Fox) push him deeper into the void. The movie explores the darkness of fame, addiction, the artistic process and the music industry. Tim Sutton directed off his original screenplay.

Baker is working on several new songs. Jib Polhemus produced alongside Rivulet Media’s film division President, Rob Paris and COO Mike Witherill. Anonymous Content and Paradigm are co-representing the worldwide rights.

Warner Bros. Sets Date For James Wan’s ‘Malignant’

DEADLINE – This just in: James Wan’s upcoming horror movie Malignant is opening on Sept. 10 this year per Warner Bros. Again, this is part of their theatrical and HBO Max release plan. The movie, scheduled in the hot post Labor Day corridor that Warners created at the box office, fills the place for an untitled horror movie they had on the schedule.

Malignant is simply billed as “Wan’s return to his roots with this new original horror thriller.” No other wide entry is scheduled against Malignant. The post Labor Day frame is where Warners bowed both It installments as well as The Nun, turning into a very lucrative period to open horror movies.
