Maddie Hasson takes talent to Hollywood for ABC Family series

With a smile stolen from Cameron Diaz and enough moxie to rival Jennifer Lawrence, Wilmington actress Maddie Hasson is ready for life in Los Angeles.

After a breakout role as Willa Monday on Fox drama “The Finder,” Hasson landed the role of Jo on “Twisted,” an ABC Family series that debuts this summer.

At 18, she has already walked the red carpet and been interviewed at press events. She’s mature, independent and driven.

When she was a 16-year-old actress on “The Finder,” costar Geoff Stults called her “the most mature actor on our set.”

She relished the mentoring she received from Stults, the late Michael Clarke Duncan and Mercedes Masöhn, who called Hasson “a spitfire.”

Twisted,” which is set at a high school and stars Denise Richards, has a cast with more actors in Hasson’s age range.

In the show, a teen with a troubled past, Danny (Avan Jogia), returns to his hometown. He reconnects with his friends, but when a student is found dead, Danny is the prime suspect.

Hasson plays Jo, one of Danny’s best friends. The other is Lacey, played by Kylie Bunbury.

The chemistry of lifelong friends isn’t easy for strangers to replicate on the screen. So the stars spent a week in New York with director Jon Amiel creating a fictional backstory and some genuine bonds.

We spent an entire week in the city with the director just improv-ing and getting the backstory down and rehearsing so it’d be like we’ve been together for years and years and years,” Hasson said during an interview at a local Port City Java. “It worked because I feel like I’ve known them my entire life.”

Also recently cast in the project is Sam Robards (“Treme,” “Gossip Girl”). Kathy Najimy (“Make it or Break It”) and Grey Damon (“The Nine Lives of Chloe King”) have also been cast as guest stars.

Shooting in New York, “Socio” follows Danny (Jogia), who has returned to town after serving five years in custody for murdering his aunt when he was 11. Maddie Hasson to Star in Gavin Polone’s ABC Family Pilot

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER‘The Finder’s’ Maddie Hasson, ‘Prom’s’ Kylie Bunbury to Star in Gavin Polone’s ABC Family Pilot

The duo will star in “Socio,” an hourlong drama revolving around an alleged sociopath who reconnects with his two former childhood best friends.

ABC Family has found two friends for an alleged murderer.

The Finder’s Maddie Hasson and Prom’s Kylie Bunbury have been tapped to co-star in the network’s Gavin Polone drama pilot Socio, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.
Socio revolves around Danny, a charismatic 16-year-old alleged sociopath who reconnects with his two childhood best friends when he returns to his hometown to attend high school. However, once he arrives, he finds himself the prime suspect when a fellow student is murdered.

Hasson will play Jo, an offbeat and tough yet vulnerable girl who was Danny’s childhood friend who, after discovering the body of his slain aunt shortly after she was murdered, became a social outcast. She becomes his biggest supporter even after he faces new allegations.
Bunbury, meanwhile, will portray Lacey, a former tomboy and once Jo and Danny’s best friend, she has found the popularity that eluded Jo by putting the past behind her — including ditching her former friend.
Polone, whose Jane By Design was canceled at the network after one season, will executive produce with Greek’s Adam Milch on board to pen the script and co-exec produce.

Hasson, who played Willa on Fox’s short-lived Bones spinoff The Finder, is repped by Coast to Cost Talent Group, STW Talent and the Beddingfield Co.; Bunbury whose credits also include The Sitter, is with ICM Partners and Principal Entertainment.
Socio is one of two pilots the network picked up in August and should it go to series, it would join a lineup that includes Pretty Little Liars and The Lying Game, among others.
